Rock in Rio Lisboa, in partnership with Liquid Innovation Co. and other partners, is creating the Smart City of Rock, turning the festival into a “living lab” to test urban technological solutions in a festival environment that mimics a real city.

Rock in Rio Lisbon is developing the “Smart City of Rock,” an innovative initiative aimed at transforming Parque Tejo into a temporary urban laboratory.

In collaboration with Liquid Innovation Co. and other strategic partners, the project will test real technological solutions in areas such as mobility, security, energy, health, and data, all within the festival environment, which welcomes over 100,000 visitors per day.

The goal is to create an immersive experience for the public while exploring sustainable and intelligent solutions for the cities of the future. The 2026 edition will mark the beginning of this transformation, with the participation of major tech companies, public entities, and startups collaborating to co-create and validate innovative solutions.

According to Roberta Medina, Executive Vice President of Rock in Rio, “innovation is in Rock in Rio’s DNA,” and the Smart City of Rock is an invitation to the world to imagine and build smarter, more human-centered cities. Egon Barbosa, CEO of Liquid Innovation Co., adds that Lisbon has the potential to become a European innovation hub, applying the concepts of city and human connection on a new, intelligent scale.

Following a successful pilot test in 2024, the 2026 edition will be the starting point for a project that will continue to evolve, incorporating new technologies and solutions with each edition.
